For Charles Sockey, it was about more than just wanting to look good. It was about coming so far in life and being determined to be able to enjoy it.
“I want to keep going until there’s no days left,” said 67-year-old analyst-retiree Charles. “I don’t want to be holed up. I want to live.”
It was a realization that came to both him and his wife Barbara last last year, a realization that made them decide a total lifestyle change was in order. At the time, Charles, at 5-foot, 11-inches, weighed in at 205 pounds. Barbara, at 5-foot, 4-inches, was 140.
“It wasn’t crazy out of control, but I wasn’t happy,” Charles said. “That extra 20-25 pounds... the last 10-15 years packing on 25 extra pounds, you just get tired of it.”
“I’ve always had to watch my weight, but it got harder as I got older,” added Barbara. “Your metabolism slows down, my clothes were tight. I just didn’t feel good. I just got to the point where I no longer wanted to feel that way.”
Barbara and Charles, both retired, said the idea of a meal delivery service appealed to them because they did not know much about eating healthy and what it looked like. After trying one meal delivery service where “the food tasted awful”, they decided to try Diet-to-Go.
“Our favorite thing was that the food was good. It was really flavorful,” Barbara said. “You didn’t feel like you were eating pre-packaged meals. It felt like a real, home-cooked meal.”
Barbara and Charles stuck with the plan, and today both have reached their goal weight. Barbara dropped 23 pounds* to 117 and Charles lost 39*, and both did it in just two months.
Today, they’re in maintenance mode, something they’re able to do on their own because using the Diet-to-Go vegetarian meal plan taught them about the importance of portion control.
“Diet-to-Go pretty much started the whole process,” Charles said. “It really kind of zoned us in on paying attention to what we were eating and, in particular, the portion size.”
Portion size is an especially important aspect of weight loss. According to WebMD, food servings are extremely deceiving, and too often people eat way more calories than they realize, resulting in weight gain or an inability to lose weight.
“Diet is everything. Exercise doesn’t have much to do with it,” Charles said. “In the long-run, it’s about what you eat...I really didn’t have to do a whole lot of activity. Again, continuing to closely monitor what you eat and how you eat is important and, in that sense, Diet-to-Go has helped out quite a bit.”
Losing the weight has paid off in other ways for Charles and Barbara.
“I feel really good, that I don’t have to worry about muffin top. I have a lot of energy,” Barbara said, laughing. “Charles sleeps better too.”
“They say 30 days is what you need to form a new habit, and that was so true for us. And Diet-to-Go actually made it easy,” she said.
